NTUE Taipei Mandarin Camps

A university-run Mandarin day camp for overseas children, including a two-week New Year session.

Dates published · check places

Winter 2027 is announced for 28 December 2026–8 January 2027, with no camp on 1 January: nine weekdays of activities. All children must attend the opening/placement day; mid-session entry is not accepted. Past Summer 2026 sessions were 22 June–10 July and 20 July–7 August (three weeks each). Summer 2027 has not been verified.

Overlapping holiday tags help you browse broadly. School breaks vary; check the stated year, actual dates and duration.

Why it is in this guide

A primary-age university language camp with an actual two-week holiday edition, rather than an adult semester course. It combines Mandarin study and cultural activities while the family stays in Taipei. The late-December start can be useful for a Japan-based winter trip, though January school return dates must be checked.

Who it may suit

Best for ages 6–12 who can separate from parents for a 09:00–15:30 day and join group activities. A parent needs to stay locally and handle punctual pickup. Beginners are eligible, but ask what English or other bridging-language support the actual class uses.

What to weigh up

Do not confuse NTUE, National Taipei University of Education, with NTNU, National Taiwan Normal University. No mid-session join is allowed, and leaving early does not create a shorter priced package. Parents may not sit in class or join excursions. Class-size sources differ: FAQ around 8–12, winter brochure maximum 15. Official refund pages also conflict on a post-start cutoff.

Operating history and evidence

A self-published Japanese parent article dated 29 September 2025 describes a completed three-week NTUE summer camp, with enjoyable morning Chinese, afternoon culture and peer interaction; it says English helped with instruction. This is a short first-hand account, not an independent assessment or a guarantee of English support. January/April 2026 Reddit discussion includes recommendations and selection plans, but not a completed NTUE review, so it is not counted as outcome evidence.

Age, language and eligibility

The winter page explicitly welcomes overseas children aged 6–15. Previous Mandarin is not required: placement is by proficiency or age at the opening. Local school enrolment is unnecessary. The university recommends staying with parents/relatives and does not provide student accommodation. Confirm passport-specific entry conditions and any additional-support needs before applying.

What the days look like

Winter 2027 runs Monday–Friday, 09:00–15:30, excluding New Year’s Day. The sample timetable places Mandarin roughly 09:00–12:00 on teaching mornings with breaks, then culture or language reinforcement after lunch; 31 December is a full field-trip day and the opening/closing days differ. This is not six-and-a-half hours of daily Mandarin tuition. Drop off after 08:50 and collect before 15:40; excursions are staff-led without parents.

Parents, accommodation and transport

Day-only, at NTUE in Da’an near Technology Building MRT. Family accommodation, commuting and evening/weekend care are self-arranged. The university can provide nearby lodging references but no child room is included. Do not book non-refundable family travel until the course place, pickup routine and final terms are confirmed.

Included costs and the family budget

Published standard Winter 2027 fee is TWD 36,000 (Approx. ¥178,000) per child for 28 December–8 January. The TWD 34,000 (Approx. ¥168,000) early-bird offer ends 31 October 2026 and is not the comparison price. The brochure includes course/cultural materials, uniform, bag, tableware, lunch/snacks, field-trip transport/tickets/meals and activity accident cover. Discount plans explicitly include registration, but the standard-price registration component is not separately explained; confirm no extra mandatory charge. Family lodging, flights, commuting, out-of-camp meals and broader travel/medical insurance remain separate. Past Summer 2026 standard price was TWD 47,000 (Approx. ¥233,000) per three-week session.

Before you book

Confirm the standard-price registration component and non-refundable amount, beginner support, actual group size, any care needs and full attendance on the first day. Resolve the conflicting refund cutoff before paying. Registration remains subject to places; the brochure’s early-bird deadline is not a guaranteed seat. Pay only after acceptance, and allow for bank-transfer fees and Japanese school dates.

Cancellation and refunds

Before opening, official sources state 90% of tuition back with registration non-refundable. For later withdrawal, the general/2027 FAQ uses a one-third-course cutoff for a 50% refund, whereas both Chinese and English Winter 2027 brochures say the first half. Get the binding cutoff and registration amount confirmed in writing. The FAQ promises full refund if minimum enrolment is not reached; individual missed days and official severe-weather closure have no makeup/refund. Bank refund processing is approximately one month.
