XUK English · Wiltshire Summer School

Residential English at Dauntsey’s School for ages 8–17, combining morning lessons with shared camp activities. It is one operator with several morning choices, not several separate programmes to count.

Dates published · check places

Official 2027 dates run 4 July–8 August, in Sunday-to-Sunday weeks. The linked registration system lists £1,280/week for 2027; the public pricing page still labels its £1,160 tariff as 2026. Do not use that old tariff for a 2027 booking.

Overlapping holiday tags help you browse broadly. School breaks vary; check the stated year, actual dates and duration.

Why it is in this guide

A residential English option for older primary children, with genuine multi-year operation and a current external registration inspection. Ofsted’s 30 July 2026 visit found compliance with Childcare Register requirements; this is a limited inspection result, not a guarantee or an academic ranking.

Who it may suit

An age-8+ child ready to stay away, including an English beginner who wants structured lessons plus sports, crafts and social activities. Siblings can share the operator’s setting while choosing an age-appropriate morning programme.

What to weigh up

This profile concerns the residential English course. The London day camp and teen-only specialist electives have different ages and content. Recent detailed independent parent evidence for the age-8–10 English group is limited; most promotional family testimonials are selected by the operator.

Operating history and evidence

Ofsted’s August 2026 letter confirms Childcare Register compliance at the Dauntsey’s setting. A December 2018 Mumsnet parent post praises XUK Activity and friendships, but is older, unverified and not the English course. March 2024 directory entries are testimonial-style letters with unclear submission provenance; treat them as limited commercial evidence.

Older parent forum account

A parent said children enjoyed new activities at XUK Activity and remained in touch with camp friends afterwards.

Old, self-reported forum comment about the activity option, not a recent age-8–10 English-course review.

Directory-hosted parent testimonial

A published parent letter describes children initially feeling nervous, then returning enthusiastic about activities, friends and staff.

Testimonial-style content on a camp directory; original stay date, ages and submission provenance are unclear. It is not independently verified parent research.

Age, language and eligibility

The official English course welcomes international visitors aged 8–17 at all English levels; prior enrolment at Dauntsey’s is not required. Children take an English assessment and are grouped by age and level. Japanese-speaking welfare support was not verified.

What the days look like

Fifteen English teaching hours weekly, normally five mornings, followed by chosen afternoon activities and evening camp events. A weekly local trip is included; major optional attractions cost extra. The sample schedule starts breakfast at 08:30 and lessons at 09:30; confirm younger children’s bedtime and current routine.

Parents, accommodation and transport

On-site dormitories are assigned by age and sex; the current FAQ gives single rooms through rooms of six. Three meals daily are included. Supervised Heathrow, Gatwick, Bristol or St Pancras transfers run on specified dates and cost extra. Tokyo families should check the transfer window before booking the long-haul flight.

Included costs and the family budget

2027 official registration listing: £1,280 (Approx. ¥266,000) per child for one residential week. The 2026 tariff was £1,160 (Approx. ¥241,000)/week, with £99 (Approx. ¥21,000) each-way standard transfers and paid extras, so these older add-on prices need reconfirming. Parents must arrange travel/health insurance separately; laundry is listed at £6 (Approx. ¥1,000)/bag in the current FAQ.

Before you book

Get a complete 2027 invoice and updated terms, including transfers and optional outings. Confirm age-8–10 class numbers, dorm grouping and the phone-contact window; the provider’s recommended evening UK phone time may be inconvenient from Tokyo. Do not repeat third-party claims that the 2026 Ofsted outcome was an ‘Outstanding’ grade.

Cancellation and refunds

The currently linked residential terms explicitly use 2026 deadlines: deposit forfeited on all cancellations; additional charges are 50% during May, 75% during June and 100% from 1 July. The 2027 schedule and deposit amount were not verified, so obtain revised conditions before paying.
